Information Communication Technology is a continually changing and expanding field in today's society. The importance of being ICT literate is high on most employers' agendas. At the Appleton School, ICT and its provisions enable students to get a good grounding in the skills required today. It is taught in all years as a discrete subject, as well as being used as a tool throughout the curriculum.
At Key Stage 3, all students have an hour of discrete ICT each week. Students develop the skills as directed by the National Curriculum within a business context.
ICT is a popular optional subject at Key Stage 4 and The Appleton School offers both GCSE ICT and OCR Nationals in ICT (Level 2).
We also have a group of students following the OCR Nationals in ICT Level 3 qualification. This is a course usually studied in a Sixth Form centre where students complete 6 units over two years to achieve their Level 3 qualification.
The ICT syllabuses are designed to encourage students to develop a wide variety of skills within a 'real-life' context. From the first lesson they have to be aware of the audience and plan, design and test a solution fit for purpose.
