School Council

The Appleton School Council has been running for at least 10 years.

We have recently changed our constitution from being made up entirely of students with only one member of staff to including representatives of the community, non-teaching staff, and a variety of teachers. We feel this format is working well. Our head boy and head girl chair and minute the meetings and keep it all running smoothly.

Since we changed our format, we have had a much greater impact on life at school.

Recent Successes include:

  • Successfully nominating a student for the Diana Memorial Award.
  • Obtaining a new water fountain at school with the promise of another to follow.
  • Raising money for and selecting a charity to support.
  • Sharing our ideas on how we should launch our business and enterprise status.
  • Introducing a student comment box.
  • Changing our School rewards system to ensure greater use of the community section.
  • Introducing a crime prevention initiative to the school.
  • Re-writing our anti-racism statement and publicizing it.

At our next meeting, we will be looking at:

  • the school homework policy and practice.
  • the best way to manage the playing of football on the playground during break and lunch.
  • the legacy excess project update
  • the web page

If you have any items for discussion or would like to sponsor one of our future projects contact Ms Parsonson at the school or speak to a council member.
