School Council

The Appleton School Council has been making a positive difference to the school for many years.

At the start of each academic year the School Council distribute applications to join the School Council body and hold interviews after receiving the submitted applications. A selected few from the existing School Council members organise the interviews and then elect the new members. The Council is made up entirely of students from every year group with the occasional teacher and representatives of the community. Two members of the council are voted in to chair and minute the meetings and keep it all running smoothly.

Recent Successes include:

  • Successfully nominating students for the Jack Petchey Award.
  • Raising money for, and selecting charities to support.
  • Introducing a student comment box.
  • Changing our school rewards system.
  • Re-writing our anti-racism statement and publicizing it.
  • Advising on the planner.
  • Advising on Show My Homework.
  • Expressing views on the school building.
  • Introducing the school Student Bulletin.

Further points to look at are:
  • The school homework policy and practice.
  • The best way to manage the playing of football on the playground during break and lunch.
  • The web page.

If you have any items for discussion or would like to sponsor one of our future projects, please contact Ms Parsonson (who runs the School Council) at the school or speak to a council member.
