Science

Science at Appleton is fun, rewarding and challenging. How do we know? Our students tell us! Students follow the Collins course throughout Key Stage 3. Each topic includes practical experiments, scientific theory, investigations, and worksheets specifically designed for the entire ability range. Students are encouraged to think scientifically and prepared to critically evaluate experiments undertaken, in preparation for KS4.

All students study Science in Key Stage 4. It is a core subject. Most students then go onto choose an option of "extra" Science resulting in 2 GCSEs at the end of Year 11. The school follows the OCR Gateway exam syllabus, with module tests spread over year 10 and year 11. The recent introduction of BTEC science has resulted in a 100% pass rate for some Year 09 and KS4 students.
