Admissions Information

The School's approved admission number for September 2007 will be 240. For the September 2006 intake, 527 applications were received by the end of December 2005. We eventually admitted 240 for the new Year 7 in September 2006.

It is hoped that the School can meet any demands for places in the foreseeable suture, but, in the event of demand exceeding capacity, students would be admitted in the following order of priority.

1. Residence within the currently designated priority admission area.
2. Where the child has, at the time of application, a brother or sister currently attending the School. *
3. Where there are medical grounds (supported by a doctor's certificate_ for admitting the child.)
4. Up to 24 children in each year group who have an aptitude for languages.
5. Proximity of the child's home to the school, on the basis of straight line distance, with those living nearest being acorded the higher priority.

• In each of the above categories, children in the care of the local authority (by definition in the Children Act 1989) will be given first priority.
• Children with statments of special educational needs will also be admitted where The Appleton School is the school named on the statement by the LEA.
• A minimum of 240 children will be admitted in accordance with the above criteria.

In the event of over-subscription arising under criterion 1 - 4, the distance criterion in 5 will apply.

* With regard to siblings, the older sibling must be attending the school at the time the application for the younger child is submitted and there must be a reasonal expectation that the older child will still be at the school at the time the younger child is admitted.

An appeals committee exists to deal with any appeals against possible non-admission.
